Although empty for over fifty years, St. Xavier Monastery was still an awe inspiring structure and Jason Bentley thought he'd found the perfect location for his newest resort. Yet once construction begins to bring the magnificent building back to its former glory, odd events begin to occur. While the death of a stonemason shakes Jason, he decides to continue anyway. Everything changes the night Jason's confronted by a nun covered in blood on the fourth floor. Staring into the haunting eyes of a ghost rocks Jason's emotions. Unsure of where to turn, Jason seeks the advice of the local Catholic Church. Deacon Ryan Christopher has decisions to make. While his mentor, Bishop Adler, presses him to commit fully to the church, Ryan has reservations. For years he's resisted his desire for male companionship and he can't take his vows until he makes a decision. Though struggling with personal issues, Ryan has also followed the events at St. Xavier in the papers. No stranger to things that go bump in the night, Ryan believes Jason and agrees to help him investigate the monastery. The spirits that haunt St. Xavier have waited decades for justice and revenge, but who will be the recipients of their hatred?

I'm really happy about the collaboration of Carol Lynne and T.A. Chase. They are both authors of worth (IMHO). This isn't their first collaboration and I hope it won't be the last.Regarding the story, I liked all of the characters portrayed in the story -- well, except for the bad guys. I really felt bad for the ghosts. Sounds unusual for a haunting to be paired with a romance but it works. I was very pleased that I purchased the book.

The Haunting of St Xavier Carol Lynne TA Chase 9780857154170 Books Reviews
With a murder scene out of an 80s slasher flick, a 40s style mystery, and ghosts that could give any haunted house a run for their money, The Haunting of St. Xavier will keep you on your toes from beginning to end. Definitely one to read with the lights on in sun filled skies. Ryan and Jason's connection may seem instantaneous and I know some don't find that believable but in this case, it fits and as they delve into the mystery deeper, their growing bond gives them and the reader a much needed dose of calming hope. An incredibly eerie and entertaining read for any time of year but extra special for a Halloween treat.
Whew! This one was kinda creepy! Killer nuns and priests abound. The mystery is deep and kept me guessing. The characters are well put together, the romance sweet with plenty of sensual loving. I did find it a little odd that Ryan jumped head first into a relationship with Jason after all that time denying his true urges. Maybe it all came to a head?
Ryan's exploration of his inner feelings are both gut-wrenching and heart-warming. The things he's been through show his inner strength and fortitude. Jason turns from a man out to make a buck to a protective lover. His progression is done well, proving that when you find 'the one', even the most career oriented will give up everything to please that person.
Great tale! I'll definitely be reading this one again.
I don't usually read books with co-writers because it almost always means that the styles don't mesh or the idea they begin with somehow gets lost during their creative process and turns out as something totally different by the end.... However, in this case Carol Lynne and T.A. Chase manage to come up with a very good, scary, enjoyable read.
Jason buys an old monastery with the idea of renovating it for a resort, only to experience strange sounds and unexplained accidents. One evening alone, he comes face to face with a ghost. When he goes to the church for help with his ghostly inhabitants, he meets Ryan who agrees to investigate. The two men are believable, the background vividly described and the plot twists and turns kept me engaged to a satisfactory end. Parts are genuinely scary and I felt as if I was walking through the building at night, waiting for something to jump out of the dark at me.
The romance is an important a part of the story as the horror aspects, a nice balance. Sexy (love the cover), scary, and a story of redemption, I recommend you curl up with this one on a dark stormy night. Check out some of their other works, both are good writers on their own.
The Haunting of St. Xavier is a tale of the pain of justice delayed and love redeemed. There are three main characters in this story Jason Bentley, Ryan Christopher, and St. Xavier Monastery. The monastery hovers over the love story between Jason and Ryan with its dark history of death and murder. Jason is a creative executive with exotic plans for the sprawling structure, while Ryan is a Catholic Church deacon trying to come to some conclusions about the path his life will take.
Both Lynne and Chase are skilled writers and fine storytellers; they set the stage in The Haunting of St. Xavier to scare. It's easy to imagine looking over your shoulder as you walk down the halls of the forbidding structure of the monastery envisioning murdered nuns and priests. At the same time, the relationship between Jason and Ryan is sweet. Ryan makes a momentous decision about his life and the priesthood that set into play the revelation of the secrets of St. Xavier Monastery, as well as those of some current church leaders.
Together, Ryan and Jason share the danger to revealing those secrets. While Jason is no-nonsense executive, he has no trouble believing that his new lover, Ryan can see and hear the angry spirits inhabiting St. Xavier. They work hand-in-hand on making the monastery a safe place for Jason's new resort.
Chase and Lynne handle the tension in The Haunting of St Xavier with much skill. They pull all the threads of the story together, except for one. Still, the romances between Jason and Ryan, as well as secondary characters Roland (Jason's assistant) and Burt are nicely done. I was scared at some points, but not too scared. The Haunting is definitely worth 4 stars.

I enjoyed this book. While I like both characters, I loved Ryan. He had to struggle so much with his identity and sexuality and handled the falling apart of what he knew of his life well.
I'm really happy about the collaboration of Carol Lynne and T.A. Chase. They are both authors of worth (IMHO). This isn't their first collaboration and I hope it won't be the last.
Regarding the story, I liked all of the characters portrayed in the story -- well, except for the bad guys. I really felt bad for the ghosts. Sounds unusual for a haunting to be paired with a romance but it works. I was very pleased that I purchased the book.
